Postnatal Support Group for Mums experiencing Menopause

Having a baby is a period of huge change for all new parents, let alone when you are dealing with POI, Early Menopause or the perimenopause, which is often misunderstood, misdiagnosed and can have life limiting symptoms.  Experiencing menopause symptoms can add significant complexity to the postpartum period, which is already a time of major adjustment.

There is a massive hole in postnatal care and menopause care for anyone who has recently had a baby. It is during this crucial period of change that women really need support to enable them to be feel supported and empowered as they start their motherhood journey.

My years of experience as a Health Visitor, coupled with my unique experience personally, means that I am well equipped to support you and your family during this transition and beyond.

The Details

The group is held weekly, via Zoom, meaning you can join wherever you are in the world, or in your PJs. I know how difficult it can be to get out when you have a small child/ren and have menopause symptoms. Everything can feel overwhelming and I wanted this to be easily accessible.

You will be part of a small group, with no more than 8 women, and have access to your own space within the M&TM online community. This is a space that is only available to your specific group and is a completely safe space. It is accessed via a private app called mighty networks, away from social media. While the group is running you will also get access to all of the resources within the community.

There is a focus topic each week that I will provide evidence based information, advice and signposting on, keeping in mind the reality of having a young family. We will end our call with confidential discussions, giving you the invaluable opportunity to talk to others in exactly the same boat.

The specifically created PDFs are uploaded onto our private space within the online community.

Week One- Menopause essentials and introductions

Before we start on improving and maintaining our health and wellbeing as a menopausal Mum with a little one, we need to understand the foundations of what and why we feel this way. We will cover menopause in a clear, concise way to ensure you understand the definitions, symptoms, diagnosis, further investigations and treatment. There will be time to introduce yourself to the group, and get to know each others background (should you wish to).

Week Two- Wellbeing, attachment and bonding

The second week is focused on wellbeing, as, in my opinion, this is the most important part of being a Menopausal Mum. Mental wellbeing is so important always, but particularly when parenting. I will share evidence based advice on improving wellbeing during the menopause, taking into consideration the impact that young children can have on this. We will talk about self care and realistic ways of how to implement this. We will discuss bonding and attachment and how this can be impacted by our fertility journey and complicated parenting situations. There will be lots of tips on how to improve your bond and what to do if you feel you aren't bonding well.

Week Three- Managing overwhelm, rage and making small changes to have big impact

This week we will discuss how we can improve our menopause symptoms and long term health, without making huge changes, as any changes as a parent to young children need to be realistic. It can be really overwhelming to read a vast amount of information about what menopausal women should be doing, however most of these women don't have tiny children. I will share tips on how to manage overwhelm and rage when parenting, and we can discuss any of your triggers and come up with a plan to improve these together.

Week Four- Symptoms and parenting, and sleep

Managing perimenopause symptoms and raising a family, a unique combo, can be so difficult at times. We will unpick the main symptoms that affect parenting and ways to improve them. Sleep for you and baby will be discussed and you will have access to the sleep webinar, with sleep and menopause specialist, Dr Caitlin. Using my sleep knowledge and training as a Health Visitor, we will discuss realistic sleep expectations and how we can help ourselves manage poor sleep more effectively.

Week Five- Relationships and pelvic floor

Both having a new baby and the menopause can impact relationships. So having both at the same time can be really difficult. We will cover libido and why this is not just related to our hormonal fluctuations. These topics are so important, yet we are still embarrassed to talk about them. We will discuss them together and I will signpost you to evidence based information. Includes pelvic floor support from a pelvic floor Specialist Nurse and Personal Trainer.

Week Six- Infant massage and closing coffee

We will finish with a infant massage session and closing coffee! You will learn the full infant massage routine, as well as the benefits of massage and when not to massage. This can really be used on any age child, it is such a great tool. Includes PDF for you to do in the future whenever you please.
