 About Me

Hi, I'm Emily.

Mum to three young children, wife, POI sufferer,

Health Visitor, Nurse and founder

of Mothering and The Menopause.

I know how hard it can be to manage perimenopause symptoms while raising a family. I have been there, in the depths of extreme tiredness and brain fog, unable to get help and feeling like no one understands.

The menopause camps are generally aimed at 'normal' aged menopause or Early Menopause, with a focus on fertility support. But what about those of us with children? Where do we go? How do we get our struggles heard?

I'm glad you've found me. Mothering and The Menopause was exactly what I was desperately looking for, 8 weeks after my twins were born.

I already had a diagnosis of POI prior to having my children, and I had a plan in place for postnatal care. However, this was ignored by my GP and left me in a dark place. I suffered with life limiting perimenopause symptoms for almost a year, including overwhelming brain fog, nausea, palpitations, night sweats, hot flushes, rage, mood changes, overwhelm, poor pelvic floor function, extremely heavy periods, to name a few. All while trying to care for 3 children under 3, get through the first COVID lockdown with no family support and a key worker husband who wasn't around much.

I went back to work as a Health Visitor 12 months after the twins were born. I already knew that there were no provisions for menopausal Mums. Unfortunately, due to NHS restraints, training Health Visitors and providing support for women managing menopause with young children, is not possible. It is such a shame because I know from my experience of supporting thousands of women and my vast training, that the impact our emotional wellbeing and physical health not only impacts us, but our precious little ones, too.

I wanted to use all of my experience and confidence in supporting women through difficult transitions with small children, and create something that was so desperately needed.

Mothering and The Menopause was born!

Motherhood

When I'm not working hard as a Health Visitor or on my wonderful community, I love yoga, walking my ginger cockapoo, Margot, and camping with the kids. My children are my world, and I get so much pleasure from playing and engaging with them.

I am a tea and sleep lover, and really enjoy my own company, something that I have definitely learnt I need over the last 4 years!
